Man beats lover to death over new rival

In Jan 7, 2012, many residents of Majolate Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, woke up to a strange sight: the body of a woman lying partially buried in the open drainage on the street.
The body had been dumped right in front of house 32/34 Majolate Street. While the stunned residents gathered and pondered the identity of the body, the occupants of No. 30 Majolate trooped out to join the crowd, only to discover that the corpse was one of theirs: Farinmade.

Farinmade, whose parents owned the building at 30 Majolate Street, was until her death, allegedly living with her lover, Adeola Agbarin, at 32 Awoyokun Street, Ilupeju.
Agbarin has allegedly been fingered by the residents as the prime suspect in Farinmade’s death. Farinmade’s sister, Doyin, told CRIME DIGEST that the deceased, had on several occasions before her death, been beaten by Agbarin.
“My sister had dated Agbarin for about two years now,” Doyin said. “She lived in his apartment Awoyokun Street, which is close to my parents’ house. All the while, my family never had cause to suspect that Agbarin had been beating her until two weeks ago when we noticed a blood clot in her eye.
“When we asked, Farinmade accused Agbarin of beating her up. When we confronted him, he denied it. My parents stopped him from coming to our house and Farinmade was also stopped from going to his house,” Doyin said.
Unknown to her family members, that instruction was not to last.
Farinmade eventually sneaked back to Agbarin’s house and the relationship resumed from where it left off until Jan 3, 2012 when Farinmade made a new friend.
A source said, “Agbarin lives in his family house on Awoyokun Street. That night of Farinmade’s death, they had a quarrel because Agbarin was suspicious that she was having an affair with Shadipe.
“In his normal fashion, the quarrel degenerated and Agbarin started beating Farinmade up. Although his grandmother and nephew who were home at the time pleaded with him to stop, he simply locked Farinmade in his room and continued to beat her undisturbed. Nobody could stop him.”
Doyin shed light on what happened after this. She said, “At about 12 am that same night, my mother got a call from Agbarin, asking where my sister was. My mother was surprised and asked Agbarin why he should question her when he knew Farinmade was with him.
“We had no idea at the time that Farinmade was in trouble or that he had beaten her into a state of unconsciousness. The next morning by six, Agbarin called my mother again and told her that he was on his way to Ketu; that he had a contract to lay some tiles there and that he had still not seen Farinmade.
“To the best of our knowledge, since we knew this guy, we never saw him carry out any tile work. He would always tell us that he got contracts to lay tiles but he didn’t have a job. My sister had three jobs.
“Apart from the shop she owned in my father’s house, Farinmade also made a living as a backup singer for two music bands. Agbarin had nothing; he just killed my sister out of desperation.”
