Police Corporal dismissed over death of UNIBEN student



A police corporal, Amadi Idahosa, has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force over the killing of a final year student of the University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu.

Corporal Amadi was said to have been dismissed after an orderly room trial to face prosecution at the law court.

He was an orderly to Chief Superintendent of Police, Mrs. Carol Afegbai who was the Divisional Police Officer of Ogida Police Station where Ibrahim was killed.

School Guard Rapes Student Inside Classroom

A civil engineering graduate from Delta State University, Abraka in Delta State, southsouth Nigeria, who lost his job and was newly employed as a security guard in a private school at Ijegun area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping a student of the school inside the school premises.

It was alleged that the 30-year old security guard, Emeka Nwabunwane, lured the 18-year old student (name withheld) to a classroom in the school and raped her when she went to the school to attend a tutorial class in preparation for her Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board, JAMB, examination.

The chairman, of the Nigerian Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has insisted that the Senate will never approve any legislation in support of early marriage.

Ekweremadu made the clarification on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen on the recent vote by the Senate on the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee. Yesterday, Senator Akin Odunsi from Ogun state also made a similar clarification.

Police confirm death of Patience Jonathan’s mother



Nigeria’s police command in Rivers state today confirmed the death of Madam Charity Obah, the foster mother to Mrs Patience Jonathan, the wife of the President,in an auto crash along East-West road in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO DSP Angela Agabe told journalists that Charity Obah was travelling with three other persons in a Toyota Corolla car with registration number ABU 153 AE.

NLC Threatens To Join ASUU Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has threatened to join the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in solidarity strike if the Federal Government failed to address the ASUU demands.

NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, made the threat at the opening ceremony of the “2013 Rain School” in Uyo.

“We call on the Federal Government to have meaningful dialogue with ASUU with a view to implementing the agreement.

A large crowd in Kano welcomed Mr. Al-Mustapha whose acquittal of murder has stirred controversy.

Hamza Al-Mustapha, the Chief Security Officer to former military ruler, Sani Abacha, arrived to a tumultuous welcome that literally grounded Kano on Sunday after a 14-year time in jail over the murder of Kudirat Abiola.

Mr. Al-Mustapha arrived at the Kano airport Sunday noon, flanked by Frederick Faseun, Chairman of the Odua Peoples’ Congress (OPC) and many others, to a rousing welcome by family members, friends and well-wishers.
