Police Corporal dismissed over death of UNIBEN student

A police corporal, Amadi Idahosa, has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force over the killing of a final year student of the University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu.

Corporal Amadi was said to have been dismissed after an orderly room trial to face prosecution at the law court.

He was an orderly to Chief Superintendent of Police, Mrs. Carol Afegbai who was the Divisional Police Officer of Ogida Police Station where Ibrahim was killed.Police sources said Corporal Amadi was found to have pulled the trigger that killed Ibrahim despite earlier claims by Afegbai that she shot Ibrahim on the legs.

Ibrahim was killed on May 27 at and was hurriedly buried by the police at the 3rd cemetery.

His corpse was exhumed after public outcry and protests for post-mortem examination and it was discovered that he was shot three times at the back.

Legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution was rejected by the Edo State Government for lacking details that would warrant a murder prosecution.

State Attorney-General, Henry Idahagbon sent the case file back to DPP for further investigation.

Reacting, spokesman for the police, Moses Eguaveon said the police would not condone injustice.

“The matter is already being investigated and justice must be done. Whoever that is exonerated will be discharged. The public should watch-out for justice.”

Lawyer to the family, Jefferson Uwoghiren said, “The trial and dismissal of Amadi Idahosa is a preface to the ultimate action against him and his cohorts for the premeditate murder of Ibrahim Momodu.”
