Why PDP must win Edo guber -PDP vice chairman

The National Vice- Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South- South, Mr Stephen Oru has offered reasons why the party has to win the July 12 governorship elections in Edo State.

According to him, all the machinery of the party is working hard towards victory at the governorship elections in Edo because, PDP needs 100 per cent support for the second term bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Bayelsa State PDP executive council, Oru who stated that Jonathan has not expressed interest in the race, said since he is qualified like any other Nigerian, it is important for the ruling PDP to have a hundred per cent domination at the home region of the president with a victory in the governorship poll in Edo State.

While declaring that the governorship election in Edo was important for the party because of the importance the party in the south-south attached to Jonathan’s second term, he disclosed that the party in the region would temporarily relocate to Edo State for the elections. Oru lamented the loss of the state to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) through the court and vowed that the party would reclaim the state through the ballot.

His words: “The PDP won Edo State through the ballot and lost it to ACN through the Court. We shall reclaim it through the ballot. It is a clarion call to all loyalists of the PDP in the South-south. We shall be relocating to Benin city to ensure total victory. We shall do anything within the law to return Edo State to the PDP.”

“When the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo came to power in 1999, there was no PDP State in the South-west. During the second election, we won six with the exception of Lagos State. But now during Jonathan, it is important that we have a hundred per cent PDP in the South-south to affirm a base for the Jonathan second term in 2015.”
