Prostitutes and male clients arraigned in Lagos Court

Five prostitutes, alongside four of their male patronisers were recently arrested by the Police in Lagos state.

Following their arrest, the nine accused persons were arrainged before an Ojokoro Magistrate Court on a four-count charge of prostitution, unlawful gathering, breach of peace and loitering.

However when the charges were read to the defendants, Emeka Chukwuma, 28; Paul Okon, 26; Fabian Sunday, 26; Shedrach John, 30 and Angel David, 27, Destiny Moses, 30; Chinyere Mbadiwe, 27; Gift Okon, 29, and Edith David, 27, they all pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge.

Thus, the juror in charge, Magistrate K.O. Ogundare granted each of them bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety of same amount.
Narrating to the court on how they were nabbed, the Police prosecutor, Inspector. Clara Olagbaiye, said the prostitutes and their men committed the offences on Nov. 4, 2012 at Wisdom Bar Hotel, Ikotun/Igando Rd. at 8.30p.m.
According to her, “the nine of them gathered unlawfully and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.”

The Police woman said they caught the commercial sex workers otherwise known as prostitutes loitering and soliciting for sex with some men believed to be their customers.
After listening to both the prosecutor and the defendants, Magistrate Ogundare adjourned the case till Jan. 11, 2013 for further hearing.
