Gunmen on Friday shot dead a member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Danladi Kademi. Mr. Kademi is the second state lawmaker to be killed in the last one month.The lawmaker was killed at Hotoro by Ring Road on the outskirt of Kano metropolis.The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the killing in Kano.He said Mr. Kademi, who was representing Gaya constituency in the State Assembly before his death, was killed at about 6:30 p.m. on Friday by gunmen suspected to be hired assassins.
According to the police spokesman, the gunmen went to the area on motorcycle and opened fire on the deceased who was sitting in front of his uncompleted guest house.
“Immediately they arrived at the place, they opened fire on the deceased who was sitting in front of his uncompleted guest house and fled the area,” the police spokesperson said. “The gunmen are suspected to be hired assassins.”
According to him, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had directed a thorough investigation in to the incident.
“The commissioner had also directed security men at various check points to ensure thorough checks of vehicles with a view to enhancing security particularly in the area,’’ the PPRO said.
The late Mr. Kademi was a two-term chairman of Gaya Local Government Area before he contested the state assembly seat.
Some gunmen had earlier on November 17 killed Ibrahim Garko, a lawmaker representing Garko constituency in the State Assembly.
