Arsenal vs Benfica: 10 things you need to know as 2017 Emirates Cup kicks off


This year’s Emirates Cup will take place on July 29 and 30.

Here are 10 things you need to know, as the pre-season tournament begins.

1. Arsenal will kick off their 2017 Emirates Cup campaign on Saturday, when they host Portuguese champions, Benfica.

2. Kick-off time is 4.20pm (Nigerian time) and the match will be played at the Emirates Stadium in London.

3. RB Leipzig and Sevilla are the other two teams participating, with the Spaniards set to face the Gunners on Sunday.

4. The Emirates Cup returns after a one-year absence, with the usual point system. Three points are allocated for wins, one for a draw and an additional point is awarded for each goal scored.

5. If two teams finish with the same number of points, shots on target will determine the champions.

6. Arsenal are the defending champions and have won the tournament more than any other team, with four titles. Benfica finished fourth in 2014.

7. Benfica are current Portuguese champions and have dominated the domestic scene with four consecutive titles.

8. As shared by the Gunners’ official Twitter account, the team will debut a new kit on Saturday.

9. Arsene Wenger’s team will be looking to win their games, ahead of August 6’s Community Shield against Chelsea and the Premier League season.
