Court remands deaf and dumb over homosexualism

The Magistrate Court Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered that, one Akinyemi Ojo, 35, a deaf and dumb be remanded in Ilesa Prison for alleged involvement in homosexualism.
Ojo was accused of practicing homosexualism with a 12-year-old boy, (name withheld) after he had kept him for three days in his room.

The offence was allegedly committed on April 7 at 7, Iroye Street, Ilesa, where the accused person resides.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the accused had carnal knowledge of the victim by putting his manhood into him, knowing that he is a male.

He said the accused had through his action committed an offence and punishable under section 214 (1) of the criminal code cap 34 volume II law of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
Mr. Chris Alfred who interpreted the offence to Ojo told the court that the accused did not know that it was unlawful and pleaded with the court to show mercy on him, saying he had vowed never to do such a thing again.
Ojo who spoke through his interpreter (Alfred) pleaded not guilty to the offence, just as he told the court that the two of them enjoyed the act, while practicing it.

The mother of the boy said the boy ran away from home for three days and could not be found, saying, “until we found him in Ojo’s house we never knew he was in Ilesa. It was when we found him and asked where he was that he told us that he was with one Akinyemi Ojo”
The boy said Ojo forced him to lie down and engaged him in sexual intercourse, against his wish.
The police said the boy had since been taken to the State Hospital, Ilesa, to determine his state of health.
The presiding Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till April 24.
