…as D’Banj denies ownership of Mo’Hits
The first to react to the development, was Don Jazzy who through a mutual friend debunked reports that he was squatting with one of his artistes, Wande Coal.
The first to react to the development, was Don Jazzy who through a mutual friend debunked reports that he was squatting with one of his artistes, Wande Coal.
He was visibly disappointed with the report and corrected it saying, he lives in his own house on Lagos Island.
“After all these years as a successful producer and record company executive, are Nigerians saying I am not well off enough to afford my own place?”, he was quoted as saying.
The implication of the report according to our source conveyed in a negative light the reason the duo separated.
According to our source, the duo agreed to go their separate ways in principle and so there was no way Jazzy would have left the house he shared with D’Banj in a hurry. He had enough time to get his own apartment before moving out.
As Nigerians continue to react to the separation saga, D’Banj has denied report quoting Ebony magazine, saying he owns Mo’Hits Records. Instead, the Koko Master said he co-owns the record company with Don Jazzy.
In the interview published on Ebony Magazine’s official website, on March 12, 2012, D’banj said: “Coming from Africa, I’m my own manager, but I co-own a label called Mo’ Hits with artistes Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, D’Prince and K-Switch. I co-own Mo’ Hits and we’ve won numerous awards by the grace of God’, D’banj told music journalist Hillary Crosley.
The pop star goes on to talk about his entrance into the US market and his signing with Kanye West’s label G.O.O.D Music.
Initial reports had quoted D’Banj as claiming ownership of Mo’Hits Records, a report clarified by the artiste.
When the initial report came, it was uncertain whether D’Banj was actually laying claim to fully owning Mo’Hits, or he was quoted out of context by the interviewer.
But, curiously, apart from referring to Don Jazzy as ‘his co- owner’, D’banj didn’t mention or credit the producer in any other part of the interview.
It is generally believed that D’banj and Don Jazzy co-own the label, with Don jazzy acting as President while D’Banj is Vice President. They’re the label’s only known directors.
The pair, who started out about nine years ago when D’banj released his single ‘Tongolo’ have made headlines in recent times.
