Citizens must engage leaders for national growth – Oshiomhole

BENIN – GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, yesterday, said Nigeria will develop at a faster pace when the citizens are able to engage their leaders on issues bordering on governance.
He made the observation when he received youths in the state under the aegis of National Union of Edo South Youths and Edo Youths for Good Governance.

He said: “You are very concerned about what is happening in the state and have engaged us on a number of issues bordering on good governance. To be honest, good governance cannot take place if the citizens cannot engage their leaders. Nigeria cannot make progress if we don’t have a citizenry that is ready to engage the leaders on issues bordering on good governance.
“The youths, as ever vigilant members of the society, owe the people a duty to be objective and to secure their own future.”
On their part, the youths, who declared their support for the governor’s second term bid and gave him an award of excellence as the Best Governor in Nigeria, said Oshiomhole had proved that good governance was possible in Edo State.
According to Mr. Iyamu Osaro of Edo Youth for Good Governance and Mr Osaghae Collins of the National Union of Edo South Youths, said Oshiomhole had made democracy an open system for the youths and the elderly.
“You have proved that good governance is possible in Edo State, that is why the youths are behind your administration,” they said.
