Desperate Housewives cast line up to give evidence in Nicolette Sheridan trial as actress seeks $4m for 'wrongful dismissal'

The stars of Desperate Housewives are lined up to appear in court as former cast member Nicolette Sheridan seeks to prove she was wrongfully fired from the hit series.
Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman have all been named as witnesses in the trial that starts in Los Angeles today.
They have been called as witnesses for the show's creator Marc Cherry who is accused of sacking Sheridan after she accused him of striking her in the face over a script disagreement.
Sheridan is seeking $4m in lost income after she was killed off in the series in 2009.
The 48-year-old star was one of the original cast members of the series which has proved a worldwide hit but ends its eight year run later this year.
The British born star claims she was fired from her role as man-eater Edie Britt after she spoke up about Cherry's alleged assault during rehearsals.
She had originally wanted $20m after filing a lawsuit claiming wrongful termination, sexual harassment, emotional distress as well as assault a battery.

A judge at a pre-trial hearing only allowed Sheridan to proceed with the wrongful termination and battery claims in her civil suit.

He also ruled that Sheridan could only get damages of one year’s salary, which is about $4m.
In a case that will be closely watched by Hollywood executives Sheridan claims she was killed off when she complained to bosses at the ABC Network about her treatment.
She alleges Marc Cherry slapped her across the face during an on set disagreement. Soon after her character in the series met a grisly end when her car hit an electrical pole.
The actress plans to call top ABC executives, including its former president Steve McPherson.
Sheridan's witness list also includes her entertainment lawyer, Neil Meyer, her publicist, Nicole Perna, and one of the show's former producers, Lori Kirkland Baker, according to the Hollywood Reporter magazine.
Cherry has named the other Desperate Housewives as his witnesses.
There are also 25 others including Neal Baer, a seven-time Emmy Award nominee on such shows as Law & Order: SVU and A Gifted Man who is said will offer his expert opinion on casting decisions in Hollywood.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPEN TO NIGERIA'S MONEY BY THIS SO CALLED POLITICIANS

His rise from DIY store worker to international playboy with a £250million fortune is the stuff of dreams.
A few years after quitting his £5,000-a-year job as a cashier for Wickes, James Ibori had become one of Nigeria's most influential and richest politicians.
He wasted no time spending his new-found wealth on luxury homes, top-of-the-range cars, five-star travel and fees at exclusive boarding schools.
James Ibori, 49, admitted a fraud totalling more than £50million. The former Nigerian state governor had a fleet of cars and six luxury properties in Britain

But yesterday the 49-year-old stood shame-faced in the dock of London's Southwark Court as he admitted stealing tens of millions of pounds from the oil-rich state he governed in Nigeria. Scotland Yard detectives believe his fraud could exceed £250million.
He was on trial in the UK because much of the stolen money was laundered through his London office.
Ibori moved from Nigeria to West London in the late 1980s and was found guilty of stealing goods from the Wickes store he worked at in Ruislip in 1990.
A year later he was convicted of handling a stolen credit card. He moved back to Nigeria and worked for its president, Sani Abacha, as a policy consultant.
Rising quickly through the ranks of the ruling People's Democratic Party, he was voted governor of Delta State in 1999, winning re-election four years later.
In power, he systematically stole from the public purse, taking kickbacks and transferring state funds to his own bank accounts around the world.

He was helped by family members, including his wife Theresa, sister Christine Ibori-Ibie, his mistress Udoamaka Oniugbo, and Mayfair lawyer Bhadresh Gohil.
A massive police investigation into Ibori's activities revealed he had bought six properties in London, including a six-bedroom house with indoor pool in Hampstead for £2.2million and a flat opposite the nearby Abbey Road recording studios.
There was also a property in Dorset, a £3.2million mansion in South Africa and further real estate in Nigeria.

Ibori, 49, owned an apartment in this block on Abbey Road, London, opposite the famous music studios

He owned a fleet of armoured Range Rovers costing £600,000 and a £120,000 Bentley. On one of his trips to London he bought a Mercedes Maybach for more than £300,000 at a dealer on Park Lane and immediately shipped it to South Africa.
He bought a private jet for £12million, spent £126,000 a month on his credit cards and ran up a £15,000 bill for a two-day stay at the Lanesborough hotel in London.
Prosecutor Sasha Wass told the court Ibori concealed his UK criminal record, which would have excluded him from office in Nigeria.

'He was never the legitimate governor and there was effectively a thief in government house,' Miss Wass said. 'As the pretender of that public office, he was able to plunder Delta State's wealth and hand out patronage.'
The court heard Ibori abused his position to award contracts to his associates including his sister and his mistress.
Scotland Yard began its investigation into Ibori after officers found two computer hard drives in his London office that revealed his criminality.

Ibori's sister Christine Ibori-Idie and his mistress Udoamaka Okoronkwo who have both being found guilty of money laundering
He was arrested by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in December 2007, but two years later a court in his home town, Asaba, dismissed the charges saying there was not enough evidence.
When the case was reopened by Nigerian authorities in April 2010, Ibori fled to Dubai where he was detained at the request of the Metropolitan Police and extradited to the UK last April.
In a packed courtroom Ibori, dressed in a dark grey suit and black shirt, appeared in the dock to enter ten guilty pleas to fraud, money laundering and conspiracy on what was due to be the first day of a 12-week trial.

His wife, his mistress and his sister were all jailed for five years each for money laundering offences following earlier trials.
Last March, Gohil, 46, and described as Ibori's London-based lawyer, was jailed for seven years for his role in the scam.
Attempts will be made to confiscate as much of Ibori's money and assets as possible so that they can be returned to Nigeria.
The Met's Detective Inspector Paul Whatmore said: 'It is always rewarding for anyone working on a proceeds of corruption case to know that the stolen funds they identify will eventually be returned to some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.'
Ibori will be sentenced on April 16 and 17.

Rubbing shoulders with A-listers! Jennifer Lopez introduces boyfriend Casper Smart to her celebrity friends at Vanity Fair party

She may have arrived at the Oscars solo without her toyboy lover Casper Smart on her arm.
But the 42-year-old introduced her 24-year-old backup dancer boyfriend to her A-list friends as she took him as her date to the Vanity Fair after-party following the awards.
And the American Idol judge was certainly happy to see him.

Casper Smart enjoyed rubbing shoulders with his girlfriend's A-list friends as he accompanied her to the Vanity Fair post-Oscars bash last night
The stunning singer nuzzled into her younger beau as the couple posed for pictures.
In return he tightly wrapped his arm around Jennifer's waist, looking like the cat that got the cream.
And it's no wonder why.

The mother-of-two looked stunning as she arrived at the bash in a very low-cut dark red sequin dress, which sweeped the floor and featured floral lace detail at the side.
She carried a matching clutch bag as she posed for photos, but unfortunately found herself having to adjust her garment in public.
Casper has certainly been enjoying the high-life since dating Lopez.

Former Governor Admits To Stealing $250 million

James Ibori, former governor of Delta State, Nigeria speaks with a reporter,16 July 2003 James Ibori is accused of using stolen money to fund his lavish lifestyle
James Ibori, a former governor of one of Nigeria's oil-producing states, has pleaded guilty in a UK court to 10 counts of money-laundering and conspiracy to defraud.
British police accuse him of stealing $250m (£160m) over eight years.
The prosecutor called him a "thief in government house".
Mr Ibori, once seen as one of Nigeria's wealthiest and most influential politicians, was arrested in 2010 in Dubai and then extradited to London.
As his trial at London's Southwark Crown Court was about to begin, Mr Ibori changed his plea to guilty and admitted stealing money from Delta state and laundering it in London through a number of offshore companies.

“ We will now be actively seeking the confiscation of all of his stolen assets so they can be repatriated for the benefit of the people of Delta state”
 Paul Whatmore Metropolitan Police
Prosecuting QC Sasha Wass said Mr Ibori, 53, had "tricked" his way into becoming Delta state governor, by giving a false date of birth and claiming he had no criminal record.
"He was never the legitimate governor and there was effectively a thief in government house. As the pretender of that public office, he was able to plunder Delta state's wealth and hand out patronage."
He is due to be sentenced on 16 April.
Mr Ibori's wife, Theresa, his sister, Christine, his mistress, Udoamaaka Okoronkwo, and his London solicitor, Bhadresh Gohil, have all been convicted of money-laundering.
The BBC's Chris Summers, who was in court, says their convictions could only be reported on Monday after reporting restrictions were lifted.
Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had asked the UK's Metropolitan police to look into the ex-governor's financial affairs.
"The vast sums of money involved were used to fund Mr Ibori's lavish lifestyle," Detective Inspector Paul Whatmore, the officer in charge of the investigation, said.
"We will now be actively seeking the confiscation of all of his stolen assets so they can be repatriated for the benefit of the people of Delta State."
He said that the money Mr Ibori stole should have been used to pay for sanitation, power supplies and healthcare for some of the poorest people in the world.
In 2007, a UK court froze assets allegedly belonging to him worth $35m.
His annual salary as Delta state governor was less than $25,000.
He had already left the UK when his assets were seized but he was arrested in Nigeria later that year.
The charges were later dropped but he was then re-arrested in Dubai on a British warrant.
Under Nigeria's federal system, state governors enjoy huge powers and control budgets larger than those of many West African countries.
