Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has now been sworn-in as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Buhari who took the oath of office administered by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Mahmud Mohammed on Friday was officially sworn in by 10:51am at the Eagle Square, venue of the inauguration ceremony.
President Buhari defeated former President, Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria’s national election adjudged globally to be free and fair.The new President and the former President, Goodluck Jonathan also took salutes from the guard of honour and the military. This was followe by 21 gun salutes as has been the tradition.
The event which has been termed historic in Africa was graced by different Presidents from the African region, including Robert Mugabe and Jacob Zuma of Zimbabwe and South Africa respectively.
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and other former Heads of State, including Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar were equally in attendance.
Meanwhile, wife of the former president, patience Jonathan was conspicuously absent from the ceremony.
