Nasarawa boils


No fewer than 10 people were reported killed in Agbashi, Ekya Development Area ofNasarawa State in a renewed clash between the people of the area and Fulani herdsmen. The people of Agbashi deserted their village, as Fulani herdsmen attacked the village in the early hours of yesterday killing 10 and, leaving several others with injuries.

Over 5, 000 residents were displaced. When Daily Sun visited the area, it was gathered that the attack was a repraisal by the Fulani for the killing last week of their kinsmen. It was also gathered that many of the villagers had run for dear lifeto nearby towns like Doma, Lafia and Makurdi, the Benue State capital. The victims of the incident who were mostly women, children and the aged trekked several kilometers into their safety.

Speaking to Daily Sun, a resident of the area who did not want his name in print said he could not ascertain the number of people killed in the crisis, but comfirmed that one of his sisters was in a serious condition, as the attackers macheted her to the point of death, and that half of the village was razed down by the attackers. In a related development, the people of Araho and Kawo in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State deserted their villages yesterday for fear of repraisal attack from soldiers.

Daily Sun investigation revealed that there was attacks on the two villages and the soldiers who were deployed to maintain peace mounted barricade to prevent attackers from invading the community, but the villagers mistakenly attacked the soldiers, and wounded their leader, a captain (name withheld) and is presently receiving treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia. The villagers deserted their villages after the attack for fear of reprisal by soldiers.
