A one-year deadline for the national identity registration of persons under the age of 15 years ends on schedule on Sunday and those who fail to meet that deadline will have to pay Dh20 penalty for each day delay.
The Emirates National Identity Authority (Eida) said people under that age need not go to the registration centres as they are not required to have their photos or fingerprints taken at the hundreds of registration centres set up by Eida through the UAE to ensure all the population have the ID card.
“The deadline ends today and there will be no new deadline….parents have been given a deadline of a full year to register their children under the age of 15 years,” Eida said in a statement.
“Those who fail to meet the deadline will be fined Dh20 for every day delay or a maximum Dh1,000…we have called on parents many times to register their children and not to wait until the last days to do so.”
Eida, which is overseeing the ID project in the second largest Arab economy of around eight million people, said no one would be exempt from penalties including handicapped children. It urged parents to take advantage of the fee exemption of their handicapped children and register them.
“All children under 15 years old are not required to come to the registration centre as they is no need to have their photos or fingerprints taken.”
The statement said documents needed for Emiratis and children from other GCC countries include the father’s passport, the ID of either the father or mother, and an applicant’s photograph. Documents required for expatriates include the parents’ passport with a valid visa, parents’ ID and an applicant’s photo.
Fees are set at Dh170 for five years for Emiratis and GCC children while expatriate children have to pay Dh100 for every valid ID year plus Dh70 as fees for the typing centre.
