As Anambra State struggles to recover from the havocs caused by the devastating floods that hit the state, another heart-renting tragedy has hit the city as a 12-year-old Miss Chidimma Ukachukwu, student of a secondary school located in Awka, the state capital has been allegedly flogged to death by her teacher for failing to do her assignment.
The shocking incident according to a reliable source in the school took place on Thursday last week.
The source who doesn’t want his name in mentioned said that the victim fainted after being flogged severally by one of the female teachers and was subsequently rushed to nearby hospital, where she eventually gave up the ghost.
Speaking further, the source disclosed that the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Uju Okeke, then ordered the closure of the school with immediate effect as a result of the incident.
Meanwhile, the commissioner however denied ordering the closure of the school, saying that the school was on midterm break.
But investigation revealed that the school would go on midterm break next week.
The bereaved victim’s dad, Mr. Simeon Ukachukwu who confirmed the tragic incident said only God knows the best.
He however, prayed God to grant his daughter’s soul eternal rest.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ralph Uzoigwe, when contacted said that the police are yet to be briefed about the incident and would get in touch with the press after further investigations.
