"First of all, we'd like to thank the Korean and international fans who have shown a lot of interest in and love for Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo. Also, we ask for your understanding as we convey this surprising news," the pair's agencies, Blossom Entertainment and United Artists Agency, said in a joint statement.
"Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo will be holding a wedding ceremony on the final day of October, 2017," the statement read. "A marriage is not only a private matter but also a meeting between two families, so it was a delicate situation in many ways. There was no choice but to be cautious prior to marriage, and so we are at last conveying this message. We ask for everyone's understanding." United Artists Agency further added that the "Full House" actress isn't pregnant.
Hours after they announced their wedding, photos from their vacation in Tokyo earlier this year surfaced online. One of the photos saw Joong Ki giving a salute, while another saw him giving Hye Kyo a playful handshake. Joong Ki and Hye Kyo reportedly started dating while filming "Descendants of the Sun" in 2015. "The truth is their love started before the airing of 'Descendants of the Sun'. The filming began in 2015, so their relationship started then," a source close to the couple revealed.
"In the beginning of last year, Song Joong Ki secretly sent snacks to Song Hye Kyo while she was participating in a photoshoot," the source shared. "This was before 'Descendants of the Sun' aired and the staff members were confused as to why Song Joong Ki was there."
