Lupita Nyong'o and Kristen Stewart Eyed for 'Charlie's Angels' Remake

The 'Personal Shopper' star and the 'Queen of Katwe' actress are reportedly considered to play members of Charlie's elite detectives.

Two names have emerged as possible candidates to play key characters in the upcoming "Charlie's Angels" remake. A source close to the production reveals to Variety that Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o are considered to portray members of the elite female detective agency.
The reboot is going to be directed by Elizabeth Banks. The 43-year-old actress also serves as one of the producers for the project. She made her directorial debut with 2015's "Pitch Perfect 2". She was last seen on the big screen in "Power Rangers" and will next reprise her role in "Pitch Perfect 3".

The new "Charlie's Angels" movie is expected to hit theaters across the country on June 7, 2019, facing off "The Secret Life of Pets 2". Janelle Monae, fresh off her critically-acclaimed movies "Hidden Figures" and "Moonlight", was previously rumored to be a frontrunner to play one of the Angels. It's unclear if the singer/actress is still in the running for the coveted role.

The three kick-ass female detectives were first introduced on an ABC series in 1976. They were originally played by Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Jaclyn Smith before Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts were brought into the show following Jackson and Fawcett's departure.

The story was first adapted for the big screen in 2000, nearly two decades after the original series came to an end. The movie starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. It was followed by a sequel "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" in 2003. The Angels returned to TV in 2011. They were played by Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor. It was canceled after only four episodes due to negative reviews.

Kristen Stewart starred in "Certain Women", "Cafe Society", "Personal Shopper" and "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" in 2016. She will next appear in "Lizzie", "Underwater" and "JT LeRoy".

Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong'o was last seen on the big screen in "Queen of Katwe". She also lent her voice to "The Jungle Book". Her next projects include "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and "Black Panther".
