David Beckham and his sons were celebrating the north London club's record-breaking 12th victory in the tournament with thousands of other overjoyed fans.
Theo Walcott, whose season has been plagued with injuries, opened the scoring for Arsenal in the first half to begin what would be a historic day for the club and its manager Arsene Wenger - who secured his sixth FA Cup victory as the team's boss.
But it was Alexis Sanchez's superb long range strike to put the Gunners 2-0 up in the 50th minute which sent their fans into raptures in the stands, on the streets of north London and on social media.
Aston Villa's new manager Tim Sherwood was so distraught after the trophy-giving ceremony that he did not come out of the losing team's locker room for a 'very long time'.
When he finally emerged, the man who miraculously saved the Premier League club from relegation, simply said: 'They need to learn to be winners.'
Adding: 'They deserved to win the game, no arguments about that... Today we couldn't nullify their threat and we couldn't manage to impose ourselves on them either.'
Aston Villa were very much the underdogs heading into their match, but few expected them to suffer such an embarrassing defeat.
