Edo guber: PDP, ACN engaged in a war of words over the emergence of Oshiomhole

People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State and the leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the state, weekend, engaged in a war of words over the emergence of Governor Adams Oshiomhole as the candidate of the party for the forthcoming July 14, 2012 governorship election in the state after weekend’s governorship primaries of ACN.

PDP in a statement  by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Matthew Urhoghide, described the process that led to the emergence of Oshiomhole as a sham, alleging that other aspirants, who indicated interest to run against the governor in the primaries were frustrated out to ensure that Oshiomhole becomes the sole candidate of the party.
He said: “The whole world is aware that some persons in the ACN had hitherto indicated interest to run for the governorship ticket of the party in the forthcoming election and all these persons were put away by the intolerant and overbearing demeanor of Oshiomhole.”
But in a swift reaction, the state chairman of ACN, Mr Thomas Okosun, described the allegation as untrue and challenged PDP to mention those who indicated interest in contesting against Oshiomhole in the primaries but were prevented.
He said: “Since the PDP went and manipulated its primaries and produced a man that has been rejected by his own community, they have been confused and running their mouths. It is clear to them that their time is up, so they have no other job than to engage in negative propaganda that will not get them any where.”
Speaking also, Obahiagbon said: “It will be unreasonable for any one to claim that the party prevented anybody to run against Oshiomhole. It is still sad that the PDP had failed to recognise the progress we have made in this state since the coming of Oshiomhole.
The secret is that Oshiomhole is loved by all including a lot of PDP members and that was why he emerged as the sole candidate of the party and that will be replicated again in the July 14 governorship election.”
