9 Boko Haram Members Killed, 2 Captured


Nigerian police on Wednesday ambushed and killed nine Boko Haram members who had attacked a police station and a bank at Tudun Wada Local Government Area, Kano, northwest of the country, an official said.
Brigadier General Iliyasu Abbah told reporters that the Boko Haram members were shot dead in Tudun Wada, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) south of the main northern city of Kano.

Iliyasu paraded two of them who were captured alive during the operation and said an investigation was launched to establish the identity of the attackers.
He said the gang had used improved explosive devices to bomb a police station, the residence of the head of police in the town and Unity Bank.
According to the army officer said three vehicles, police uniforms, assault rifles, handguns, tear gas canisters and ammunition were recovered.
Islamist Boko Haram sect carried out its deadliest attack yet in Kano, Nigeria’s second city, with coordinated bombings and shootings on January 20 which killed 185 people.
The Mandawari police station in Kano has been repeatedly targeted by suspected members of the sect.
