Presidency: We won’t negotiate with Boko Haram under conditions

The Federal Government said, yesterday, that it will not negotiate with Islamic sect, Boko Haram under conditions, even as mixed reactions have trailed the declaration by the sect of its readiness for dialogue to end series of suicide bomb attacks in many parts of the north.

While some urged government to go ahead with the dialogue, others cautioned against the idea saying it would be counter-productive. However, the Presidency said it would discuss with the group without preconditions as demanded by the sect.

This came as the group denied killing General Mohammed Shuwa and others who were killed in Maiduguri, weekend.

Civil War: INC calls for prosecution of Gowon, Obasanjo, Danjuma

A political pressure group popularly known as Igbo National Congress (INC), in reaction to the various roles played by Nigerian politicians during the civil war has called on the Federal government to quickly swing into action by prosecuting the former Heads of States, General Yabuku Gowon, and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Also to be included in the persecution is General T.Y. Danjuma. According to the group, the Generals must have different explanations to give regarding the organized genocide against Ndigbo during the civil war that dealt a devastating blow on the Igbos.

In a press statement issued by the group, and signed by its President-General, Comrade Chilos Godsent, in Owerri, after their executive meeting, they had blamed the aforementioned for what it termed extreme genocide against Ndigbo.

“Don’t go to Saudi Arabia for negotiation, don’t compensate Boko Haram” – CAN tells FG

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has in its opinion advised the Federal government on the need to stand against the ongoing reconciliatory move by Boko Haram and the conditions given for a possible Dialogue. CAN’s Leadership has openly kicked against the condition of negotiating to take place only in Saudi-Arabia. The CAN Financial Secretary in the 19 Northern states, Rev. Joshua Maina had stated this in Bauchi while speaking to the press.

He had advised that the Government should not always yield to such reconciliatory move, since such would be a sign of weakness and fear. He said “Boko Haram should not be so dreaded to the extent of giving in to their demands. President Goodluck Jonathan has actually been frightened by Boko Haram. Whether we like it or not, he has to face the reality. Saudi Arabia gives them cover as to who will be the figure for the dialogue. “I don’t want to believe the same man who spoke on phone to media men yesterday would be the one to speak for Boko Haram. It is more or less going to be a meeting, what do we table to the Federal Government as or own demand? The same credible people who are going to speak for the Federal Government will be the same people speaking for Boko Haram.

Tragedy as Ondo LG boss dies in road mishap

The Interim Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government Mrs. Opeyemi Adefarati, died in a road mishap that occurred along the Owo-Ikare Expressway on Thursday night.

The tragic incident, according to the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, occurred around 8.25 pm when the driver of a trailer with registration number ABJ 413 XA, lost control while descending the Oke Maria hill and ran into the Toyota Camry with registration number GG268 EKY, which conveyed Adefarati and her orderly.

MEND reacts to Boko Haram's request, demands Henry Okah's release (Press Statement)

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has reacted to conditions of ceasefire given by members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram sect.

MEND threatened serious consequences if the federal government agrees to demands made by members of the Islamic sect without releasing its leader, Henry Okah.

It will be recalled that Boko Haram on Wednesday offered to hold talks with the federal government ahead of a planned ceasefire giving some conditions for such dialogue to hold.

Contrary to the news making the rounds that the radical Islamist extremist –Boko Haram has nominated Former Head of States, General Muhammadu Buhari as the mediator between them and the Federal Government of Nigeria in the proposed peace talk, the retired Military General has denied knowledge of his nomination.

Anti-Corruption Activist Provides Photos Of Mansion Built For Minister Orubebe In Abuja

An anti- corruption watchdog group, Anti-Corruption Network, led by former house member Dino Melaye today provided photos of a residence it claimed was built for Nigeria's minister of the Niger Delta ministry, Elder Godsday orubebe in the Mabushi area of Abuja.

Mr. Dino stated that a construction company Setraco built and delivered the new mansion to Mr. Orubebe in less than six months after the company benefitted from contracts to build part of the East-West highway in the Delta region.

Retired General Mamman Shuwa shot dead in Maiduguri

Gunmen shot dead a retired general and a northern elder statesman, Mamman Shuwa, on Friday in Maidugri, the Borno state capital.

He was reportedly shot around 11:30am.

Eye witnesses said the Retired General was shot multiple times in front of his house at lower Gwange area.

Mr. Shuwa was one of few residents of the area who were still in their houses. Most of the residents deserted their homes after the JTF reportedly went on rampage about two weeks ago when an Improvised Explosive Device planted on their route exploded and killed a lieutenant and six soldiers.

“We will cease fire if government arrests Sheriff and compensate us” – Boko Haram

Members of Jama’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad also known as Boko Haram have said they are now willing to cease fire and stop all atrocities being perpetrated by their group and work against other existing groups if the State and Federal Government will truly heed to their demands.

The acclaimed spokesman of the group, Abu Mohammed Ibn Abdulazeez, who doubles as the second-in-command (Amir) to their leader Imam Abubakar Shekau revealed this in a tele-conference with journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday stating that if the state and the federal government want the group to seize fire completely, then former Borno state governo,r Ali Modu Sheriff must be arrested and prosecuted according to the law of the land.
