How robbers raped woman in her husband's presence
Residents of Ogida quarters in Benin City were shocked last Saturday when they woke to see a house wife (names withheld) shouting and pleading for help.
They rushed to the house only to discover that the woman was raped by three young men who stormed the house at about 3am. They further discovered the victim’s husband who was tied by the robbers and pushed under the bed.
The suspects Peter Anigboro (25 years old), Lucky Williams (22) and Olise Friday, forced the door of the residence of the victim open with an impoverished gun and a dagger.
Jonathan presents millions, national honours, plots of land to Super Eagles
President Jonathan on Tuesday evening announced as gifts from the Federal Government to each Super Eagles player, 5 million Naira, a national award of Member of the Order of Niger, MON, and a plot of land in Abuja, for their victory in the just concluded 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The president made the announcement at a special reception held in honour of the Super Eagles at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Cancer of the nose prolonged my stay abroad – Gov. Sullivan Chime
The Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime has finally opened up on the reason why he was away from his duties for almost four months.
While he was away, there were speculations that he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment at a London hospital.The governor admitted that he was ill, and that after he found that he had cancer of the nose, he had to find a way to get it removed.
His admission has portrayed some government officials in Enugu State as peddlers of falsehood; as they had consistently claimed, while he was away, that he did not go abroad for medical reasons.

Baby born onboard Emirates flight to Manila
An Emirates flight from Dubai to Manila had to be diverted to Kolkata over the weekend after a pregnant passenger delivered onboard.
On Thursday, Emirates flight EK332 Dubai to Manila [was] diverted to Calcutta in order to obtain medical assistance for a passenger,” an Emirates spokesperson confirmed.
“The safety of our passengers and crew is of the highest importance and will not be compromised.”
The passenger, who hails from Philippines, was reportedly travelling with her husband.
Nigerian or Canadian tipped to replace Pope
Francis Arinze of Nigeria, Peter Turkson of Ghana and Marc Ouellet of Canada were among the cardinals hotly tipped by bookmakers on Monday to take over from Pope Benedict XVI.
William Hill bookmakers named 80-year-old Arinze as their favourite to replace the pontiff following Monday's shock announcement of the pontiff's resignation with odds of 2-1, followed by Turkson at 5-2.
Coral also tipped Arinze as the likeliest successor with odds of 7-4, followed by Turkson at 2-1 and Ouellet in third place at 5-1.

This was the moment lightning struck the Vatican today – hours after Pope Benedict XVI’s bolt-from-the-blue resignation.
The lightning touched the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the holiest Catholic churches, after the Pope’s shock admission he lacks strength to do the job.
The Vatican stressed that no specific medical condition prompted Benedict’s decision to quit – the first pontiff to do so in 600 years.
Stephen Keshi withdraws his resignation
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has allegedly withdrawn his resignation, which he announced on radio Monday evening.
It was gathered this morning that Keshi has taken back the resignation he announced on Metro FM yesterday, after an emergency meeting with Nigeria’s Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi. In the meeting he received “certain assurances”, presumably financial ones.
It appears that Keshi has called the bluff of the Nigerian Football Federation, in spectacular style. He alleged on Monday that the federation had already “sacked” him before his side’s shock victory over Cote d’Ivoire – a sacking that would presumably take effect as soon as the Super Eagles were knocked out.

Maiduguri University Student Shot By JTF Dies
Abdulmumini Abubakar, the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) student who was shot on January 4 by the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri, Borno State, has died.
Lieutenant Col. Sagir Musa, the JTF spokesman, claimed in a statement at the time that Abdulmumin, a 400 level Adult Education student, was hit in an exchange of fire between the JTF and Boko Haram militants, and that he was escorted to the hospital where he was “receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.”
Relatives and other students disagreed with that statement, describing the student as another victim of JTF's infamous and reckless acts of extra judicial killings in the Maiduguri area.

NNPC Aircraft overshoots runway in Warri
Tragedy was averted on Wednesday, after a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) aircraft, operated by Aero Contractors, overshot the runaway, after it landed at the Osubi Airport in Warri, Delta State.
The Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Tumini Green, confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that the plane was on a routine operation to Warri, when it happened.

Family Friend Rapes, Impregnates 15-Year-Old Girl
Before July 2012 the families of Jolaosho and Adejumo, of Meiran in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, were best of friends.
But the relationship went sour recently after Adejumo, 40, allegedly raped Jolaosho’s 15-year-old daughter.
After the rape, the girl, who was a virgin, missed her period. subsequent medical examination showed that the 15-year-old pupil of Meiran Community Junior Secondary School was pregnant.
