Yakowa's death: Patience Jonathan weeps (PHOTOS)

Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan wept in Kaduna on Monday when she paid a condolence visit to Mrs Amina Yakowa, wife of Gov. Patrick Yakowa, who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

“I am sorry I am crying because I am a woman; I know what she (Amina) is passing through. It’s quite unfortunate that we lost a peaceful and supportive man, a man who was always filled with joy.

“My only advice to you my friend is that you should take heart, have faith in God because only God can comfort and protect you and your kids.’’

Okonjo-Iweala accuses indicted oil marketers of sponsoring mum’s kidnap

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Monday accused indicted petroleum products marketers of masterminding the recent kidnap of her mother, Kamene Okonjo.

She however refused to name any of the indicted marketers suspected to have sponsored the dastardly act, saying: “I can’t give all the details, because we don’t want to compromise on-going investigations.”

The octogenarian wife of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Chukuka Okonjo, was abducted from her home in Delta State and forcefully taken captive on Sunday, December 9, by gunmen.

Defense minister allegedly collapses while having sex with teenage girlfriend

Malawi is buzzing following reports that defence minister, Ken Kandodo collapsed in a hotel room during a session with his teenage girlfriend.

The minister is said to have taken one too many Viagra pills to keep up with the teen. Kandono has vehemently denied this saying this was untrue.

But social networks were awash with details of his collapse with some reports saying the girl, a student of Namitete secondary school had to alert hotel staff who then called an ambulance.

But the minister came out in the open Thursday afternoon when he phoned Nyasa Times to say the matter is “total fabrication.”

Oshiomhole vowed to bulldozers property of any landlord who increase rent as a result of property tax

GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has vowed to send bulldozers to destroy the property of any landlord who increases rent as a result of property tax, which was signed into law recently by the state government.

The governor gave the warning yesterday at a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the tax sector, with a view to sensitising the people on the recently passed law on the Land Use Charge 2012. He said it would not be a burden for tenants but a levy on owners of large expanse of land especially in the Government Reservation Areas.

Village head, policemen, others slaughtered in Borno state

It was a sad weekend for the people of Burbura village in Pompomari General area of Konduga Local Government of Borno State, as yet to be identified gunmen besieged their community, killing their Village head, Bulama Ibrahim Aisami, Mallam Zakariya Gwoza, a bricklayer, Mallam Mustapha, a serving policeman, and Mallam Kolo, a retired policeman.

It was gathered that the dare-devil killers invaded the area on Saturday at about 2am, went to their various houses and slaughtered their victims. Sadly, when all efforts to cut the village head, Bulama Aisami into pieces failed, they opened gunfire on him in the presence of his family members.

Bayelsa helicopter crash: ACN wants thorough investigation

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has called for a careful investigation of Saturday’s military helicopter crash that led to the death of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Yakowa, former NSA Owoye Azazi and four others.

The party said that knowing the real cause of the crash would prevent future recurrence.

“It is said that every plane crash makes flying safer. That assumes that every such crash is properly investigated and the cause or causes found, disclosed and fed into efforts aimed at averting a recurrence. Saturday’s crash should not be an exception,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has called for an inquiry into Saturday’s air mishap that killed Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Yakowa and former National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoeye Azazi, and four others in Bayelsa State.

In a statement by its leader on Sunday, the NLC commiserate with the family and home states of the victims, while calling for review of the status of all aircraft belonging to the Military as well as the Presidency.

Yakowa, Azazi: Puzzles in military circles over crash

WHY did the helicopter carrying former Kaduna State Governor Patrick Yakowa and former National Security Adviser Andrew Azazi crash?

The question remained unanswered yesterday but in military circles sabotage is seen as one of the “strong possibilities” being considered– according to sources who pleaded not to be named “because of the sensitivity of the matter.”

The source, who is a top officer in the Western Naval Command, said: “At the moment, we can’t rule out sabotage as a possible cause of the fatal crash.

Yero sworn-in as Kaduna governor

The Kaduna Government House was a beehive of activities on Sunday as sympathizers defiled heavy security cordon to pay their last respect to the late governor of the state, Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and witness the inauguration of Mukthar Ramalan Yero as the new governor.

It was hectic gaining access into the council chambers of the government house for the swearing in of the new government which was performed by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Rahila Cudjoe at about 1.06 pm.

Lawyers condemn Delta’s N50m pension to Ibori

The payment of N50 million to convicted felon and former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, as pension has been condemned by some lawyers who described the payment as illegal and unconstitutional.

Mr. Ibori is currently serving a jail term in London, after he was convicted of laundering Delta State funds into the U.K. The former governor was sentenced to 13 years for laundering about $250 million (N37.5 billion) into the U.K.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is also set to prosecute the former governor, in Nigeria for stealing Delta State funds, when he completes his jail term.

Saudi billionaire dies hours before marriage

A Saudi billionaire died just hours before he was to marry an Algerian girl who he had met in Saudi Arabia before travelling to her country for the wedding.

Drici Waleed, a 43-year-old business tycoon, fell in love with the girl while visiting Saudi Arabia with her family, the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq said.

Last week, he flew to Algeria and agreed with the girl’s family to hold the wedding on Thursday in the eastern Algerian town of Sateef, the girl’s birthplace.
