A 200 Level student of the University of Benin allegedly stole a Blackberry Phone belonging to her friend in BDPA, and was consequently threatened by other students who came to the scene.

Seven candidates are contesting the Edo state governorship election today.

They are:

Solomon Edebiri – All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP);

Izevbuwa Roland – Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – he announced he was stepping down for the ACN candidate days ago, but is still considered a candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Group to declare state of Biafra Nov 5

A pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, announced, yesterday, that it had commenced the process to launch the struggle for a State of Biafra with the international community, saying that the formal declaration of the new Biafra Republic had been slated for November 5.

This came as Conference of Igbo Youth Organizations, CIYO, warned that Ndigbo “would no longer watch in silence while our brothers and sisters are slaughtered like animals” in the Northern States.

Federal Government has overruled the National Youth Service Corps on the redeployment of corps members from troubled states.

Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday. Abdulkadir insisted that corps members would be posted to Borno, Yobe and other troubled states.

Family of 8 Die Mysteriously After Attending Mother's Burial

Tragedy struck Sunday morning at Umuakoro Village in Emekuku Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo state when 9 persons, including 8 members of the same family were found dead at their residence in the early hours of the day.

Report says Mr. Pascal Njoku who worked and resided in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, had come back home for the final burial ceremony of his mum who died some months ago. He was accompanied by his wife, 5 children, his sister-in-law and her son. Shortly after the burial on Saturday, they all went to their respective rooms to sleep.

Edo guber election: ... Students condemn PDP candidate Gen. Charles Airhiavbere's utterances

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 14 election, Gen. Charles Airhiavbnere, yesterday came under severe criticism from students of Edo State-owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.

According to the students, his language and utterances at a live debate programme aired by both local and satellite television stations across the world were ungodly and highly provocative. The students therefore, gave a seven-day ultimatum to the former Commander of Army Finance Corps to tender a public apology to students and management of the institution in not less than four national daily newspapers and three national television stations, or face their wrath.

Senator Gyang Dantong, health committee chair, Others Murdered


The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the upper legislative chamber has died.

The member representing Barikin Ladi at the State House of Assembly, Gyang Fulani was also reported dead Sunday.

There are however conflicting reports of how the two lawmakers died.

While one version said they were shot dead while attending the burial of those killed on Saturday in attacks on some villages in Barinkin Ladi, the News Agency of Nigeria quoted Rwang Dantong as saying his brother, 55, died of heart attack.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state command of the Nigerian Police, Emmanuel Abu, said he heard of the incident but was yet to be briefed officially.

Former Liverpool defender Miki Roque died on Sunday in Barcelona at the age of 23 after battling against cancer.

The Real Betis defender was at Liverpool from 2005 to 2009, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2006, before joining the Spanish club.
He played once for the first team – against Galatasaray in the Champions League in December 2006.

19:06 Government ready to discuss with Boko Haram: President Joinathan says he is willing to dialogue with the Boko Haram sect, if they have a “face.” He said the sect’s members are Nigerians and he will like to transform their lives just like the Niger Delta millitants.


19:12 For now, there is no negotiation ongoing with Boko Haram, the president said.


19:16 President Jonathan said he has not visited Borno state, the center of Boko Haram attacks, because the airport there was not functional at the time he planned to visit. “And we did not want to land somewhere and fly in to Maiduguri with a helicopter for obvious reasons.” He promises to visit the state and other states in Nigeria.
